It's Not Fair: The Often Surprising And Always Amazing Grace Of GodSample
God looks for you and me like a shepherd looks for a lost sheep or a woman looks for her lost coin. When we are lost, He searches and searches until we are found. He doesn’t wait for us to come back to Him. He comes to us. God already showed us that this is the way He loves us by sending us Jesus. We were lost in our sins, so God became a man, lived a perfect, sinless life, died to pay the debt we owed, and came back from death to defeat the powers of sin, death, and evil. That’s the gospel. If that’s not an example of someone going way, way, way out of their way to find somebody who is lost, I don’t know what is.
God’s love is unfair. He loves us even when we don’t deserve it. He loves us like crazy and always pursues us. He throws a huge celebration when He finds us. If God loves us enough to send us Jesus, of course He will continue to love us this way once we already know Him. When we mess up and sin or when we go through periods of time when we do not pay much attention to God, He still loves us. He is pursuing us even now. One way He’s been pursuing you is by prompting you to read this devotional! He loves you so much and longs for you to be with Him. He goes out of His way to call your attention back to Him. He wants to tell you about more and more of His love. You never have to be afraid because even if you make mistakes in the future, God will always come and find you. He will always reach out to you and bring you back to Him.
This is a very great, surprising, unfair, and good gift. It is the best news ever. God loves you with a radical, self-sacrificial, generous, initiating, perfect love. And He has that same love for every person in the whole world. Oftentimes, God chooses to work through people to make His love known to people, like how He uses this and other devotionals to help you read His Word. He also works through people by using us to tell others how much He loves them. Who is someone you can tell about God’s love for them today? Think of one way you can show and tell them of His love. For example, you could tell them with your words, send them this or another devotional, or do something kind for them and tell them it is because Jesus loves them. Make a reminder in your phone or on a calendar for a week from now and see if you’ve followed through on sharing God’s love with this person. God’s unfair love for us is the best news ever, so let’s share it with the world!
