Setting Godly Goals

DAY 7 OF 7

I began making a character sketch of the Proverbs 31 woman in 2006. I wrote the idea for a title for a book based on what I was writing down in 2012. I began teaching through what I was learning in 2013.

Famous in Heaven and at Home wasn’t released until 2016…nearly a decade after I began making notes for it.

Writing a book is laborious. I needed to be able to have several hours at a time where I could get into a rhythm of focus, knowing my kids were taken care of, happy, and safe.

That season didn’t arrive until 2016….so the book didn’t happen until 2016.

So after you write your goals down, carefully consider your current season and the unique assignments God has given no one else but you (like being His child, your role in your family, etc.), and make sure no goal on your list gets in the way of those priorities.

God, we don’t want to succeed at things in this life that don’t really matter. Give us discernment. Help us honor our priorities. Help us to value the assignments You have given only to us. It might not get us the most applause, but Lord, we know Your reward to us is promised when we choose to obey You. Help us surrender everything to You. We trust You. Amen.

P.S. Great news -- you’re now ready to set some goals!

Here is a quick recap to help you evaluate the goals you set based on what we’ve reviewed over the last seven days (plus a few bonus tips!):

1.  Do my goals complement my priorities and values?

2.  Do my goals compete with one another or build on one another?

3.  Are my goals specific?

4.  Is God’s power and my effort required to achieve these goals?

5.  Who have I told, and who is praying with me about my goals?

6.  Do my goals push me to generosity?

7.  Do my goals help me do my job well and fairly?

8.  Whatever the outcome, can I be content?
