Anxiety Not!Sample
Be Anxious For Nothing
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).
Is there anything you are anxious about? If you dwell on that anxiety long enough, you will start to worry about it. If you let this thought go unchecked and really lather up, it will eventually turn into fear.
So how do we do battle against anxious thoughts? There is a real simple answer: take everything to the Lord in prayer with thanksgiving. And what is our reward for doing this? The peace of God will guard our hearts and minds.
There is an old hymn written in 1855 by Joseph Scriven called “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” The first verse says, “O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.”
Are you carrying around a burden you should not? Are you bearing needless pain? We do have a friend in Jesus who has paid the ultimate price so you do not have to carry any burden. When Jesus said, “It is finished” on the cross, He said, in essence, “I will take it from here.” Whatever burden you carry, leave it at the foot of the cross through your prayers. And once you set it down, do not go back and pick it up again.
The Psalmist tells us in Psalm 94:19, “In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.” These comforts come in the form of His peace, the peace that transcends all of man’s understanding. You cannot buy this peace, nor can you sell it, but God freely offers it. Are you willing to accept it?
Peter tells us, “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:6-7). Do not be anxious about anything because He cares for you!
Prayer: Lord forgive me when my anxiety gets the best of me. Help me to take every anxious thought to You in prayer. May Your peace overwhelm me and all anxiety, worry, and fear melt away. Thank You for caring so much about me, and allowing me to take anything to You in prayer regardless of how big or small it is. In Jesus name, amen.
