[Real Life] Abide To Achieve

DAY 2 OF 7

Clean Feet

If you are a believer in Jesus, you are not a sinner who does saintly things every once in a while. You are born again. You have been made new. Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit, lives inside of you. You are clean. You are a saint who at times sins, and when that happens Jesus gives you a way out—confession leads to clean feet.

As believers in Jesus Christ, our greatest desire is not for sin anymore. If you are in Christ, you have been born again, and what you really want is righteousness. I want to do things that honor God. I want to know God better. That understanding is different from, “I know I shouldn’t do bad things, but I really want to.” Where is your want? Understand that you have been made clean.

God is a holy God. He has never thought about doing anything wrong. He is completely pure. He made us in His image. We were made without sin, but we chose the wrong path, we lied, and we sinned. Now we have a Holy God and sinful people. What does God do? He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for sin, so everyone could be made clean in Him. It is not in us but in a relationship with Him that we are clean. That is how we begin our journey—this Christian walk of abiding. We do not have to earn our salvation; we do not have to get clean on our own. He has given us cleanliness in Jesus.

That is what it means to be a Christian: forgiveness of sin and Jesus living in our heart. All we have to do is respond and say, “Lord, I know I have done things wrong, I want you to come into my heart and make me clean.” When that happens, change happens in your life. Picture a bride dressed in her clean, beautiful, white gown, or a military army dressed in the cleanliness of their dress whites. In Jesus, we are dressed white and clean. We are made clean in Him. We are not trying to earn a new nature, we already have one. From that knowledge and understanding, we then step into abiding, connecting to the Source.

Lord, thank You because, in You, I have been made clean. Now I can rest in Your love. Amen.

About this Plan

[Real Life] Abide To Achieve

Where is real life found? The Bible tells us that we find it abiding in Christ. In this second devotional plan from the Real Life series, we learn that to abide is to experience a restful residence and a desperate dependence on Christ. We are not earning our salvation by abiding in Him. We are responding to who we are in Him and that changes how we walk.
