The Lie Of "Not Enough"Sample
3) The Gift of Sufficiency
Do we REALLY want to be in charge of the world? Often times we act like we do. Our personal control freak acts as if we actually want to be in control. This is simply the pride of man. Scripture says that many are the plans of a man, but it is the Lord’s purposes that prevail. Would we really want to be capable of only accomplishing what we could hope or imagine when we have a God that offers so much MORE than we could ever hope or imagine? The true journey is in letting go on a daily basis. What?!?!?!
So, if you were offered “His will, His way” or “Your will your way” the choice would seem obvious. But the devil is sly and sneaky. He disguises good as evil and evil as good. Praise God that what the enemy intends for evil, God can turn for our good. So the question of sufficiency or “enoughness” relates to a question of “who is really driving this car? This life? “
Sufficiency is a gift of grace. “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.” It is a gift that allows us to abound in every good work for all the things to which we are gifted and called. God knew that we could not do it on our own. He never wanted us to. He wants us to live in the fulfillment of His greater plans and purposes for our lives. He wants us to be competent and equipped for every good work.
You can do all the things that God has called you to. We don’t want to waste our time doing those things that we are NOT called to do. That burden is too great. Let’s lean into the voice of the Shepherd. Let’s accept His gift of sufficiency and unload ourselves otherwise.
Questions to ponder:
· Stop and ponder if you actually want your will, your way or God’s will, God’s way?
· Would you even really want to be in charge of the world?
· What is one way you struggle with giving and receiving grace? Sufficiency?
· Do you recognize the voice of The Shepard?
· Why do we try to hang on to our plans when He has greater purposes for your life?
Life-giving Prayer:
Thank you for Your gift of sufficiency. Help me get out of the driver’s seat of my life. You take the wheel. Please navigate Your purposes for more than I could hope or imagine. I bow to Your will Your way! Lord, save me from myself. Do not let me get in Your way of the greater purposes for my life.
