God has many names in the Bible. Each name describes a particular character trait of God or of what He does. In the beginning of the Bible, God revealed himself predominantly as Elohim, the God who created the universe and everything in it. He was acknowledged and worshiped as the Ruler of nature and the source of all life. But when Moses encountered God through the burning bush, God reveals his name as the LORD(Ex 3:14) which is translated from the Hebrew  word YHWH. The same word LORD is used in Psalm 121: 2. 

Basically it means that God has always existed and will always exist. The name Yahweh is considered most sacred by the Jews and they will not even utter it aloud while reading the Scriptures. To learn more about the name of God, Yahweh you can watch this short video from the Bible Project. 

Later on in Exodus 6 God says, "I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the LORD I did not make myself known to them." It was through Moses that God gives us a better glimpse into His nature and essence through the name Yahweh.  God can be seen desiring to reveal His personal character and have a direct relationship with His chosen people(Isa 42:8)

When God revealed himself by this name to Moses, he also promises Moses that his presence will be with him and subsequently with the people of Israel. (Ex 3:12)

When Lloyd C. Douglas, author of The Robe and other novels, was a university student, he lived in a boarding house. Downstairs on the first floor was an elderly, retired music teacher, who was infirm and unable to leave the apartment. Douglas said that every morning they had a ritual they would go through together. He would come down the steps, open the old man's door, and ask, "Well, what's the good news?" The old man would pick up his tuning fork, tap it on the side of his wheelchair and say, "That's middle C! It was middle C yesterday; it will be middle C tomorrow; it will be middle C a thousand years from now. The tenor upstairs sings flat, the piano across the hall is out of tune, but, my friend, THAT is middle C!" The old man had discovered one thing upon which he could depend, one constant reality in his life, one "still point in a turning world." 

From Genesis onward, we see God progressively revealing Himself to humanity. He was  worshiped as Creator and Almighty God to the Patriarchs Abraham, Issac and Jacob. Later on he revealed Himself to Moses and the nation of Israel as the covenant keeping, relatable God. The ultimate fulfillment of God’s revelation can be found in the person of Jesus Christ who was Yeshua incarnate in the flesh. The name Jesus comes from the Hebrew name Yeshua meaning Saviour or Deliverer. He came to deliver the entire mankind from the bondage of sin and Satan(Lk 19:12) just as God came to rescue the Israelites from the slavery of Egypt in the Old Testament(Isa 43:11). Jesus claims to be the First and Last, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End(Rev 22:13) which the Hebrew people knew was only Yahweh(Isa 44:6).

When we reflect and look into God’s eternalness, his unchanging nature and the promise of His presence with us, our fears and anxiousness will surely subside as He is the one who holds our right hand to help us. (Isa 41:13)
