Read To Me Daily Semester 4Sample
EZEKIEL 40:
In chapters 38-39 of Ezekiel we heard of the kingdoms of Gog and Magog, which point to future kingdoms in the north. Like Ezekiel’s prophecies against the kings of Tyre and Babylon, Gog and Magog also refer to spiritual entities beyond this world, and we will hear of them again in Revelation chapter 20. And today we begin hearing of something else that appears in Revelation.
ISAIAH 16:
Today’s chapter in Isaiah is the continuation of the prophecy against Moab.
HEBREWS 10:35—11a:
As I have told you more than once this year, because of a quirk in English, the tight connection between the noun ‘faith’ and the verb ‘believe’ has been broken. These two words have the same root in Greek. It would have been better had English preserved the verb and noun connection such as between ‘confident’ and ‘confidence’. The reason I mention that again now is because today we read the famous ‘faith chapter’ of Hebrews. Bear in mind that ‘faith’ means ‘fully believing’. Note that this chapter is actually expounding on a quote from the end of chapter 10, so that’s where we begin today.
Let’s pray.
O holy and loving heavenly Father and our Savior and High Priest, Christ Jesus: We cry out to you to help us to remain faithful to You, and at the same time, thank You for wonderful truths that encourage us about our acceptance in your sight. We see the armies of Gog even now assembling to attack us. The world system is ever more antagonistic against your followers, Lord. As we are publicly mistreated and insulted, or if our possessions are seized, may we endure everything with joy just like the early believers did, because we know that we possess much better things— things that will last forever. Lord, keep us from intentional sins. Help us to keep holding onto your promises that give us endurance when we are tempted to sin on purpose. Lord, how we need the encouragement and support of fellow believers. I pray that my listener will have the joy of being in a close-knit fellowship— where members love one another and hold each other accountable. Give each of us at least one other believer who is concerned for us and will pray for us. We pray for courage, Lord, for as our reading today in Hebrews says, “it brings with it a great reward.” (Heb. 10:35)
