Read To Me Daily Semester 4

DAY 30 OF 116

2CHRONICLES 32:
Following that special Passover we heard about yesterday, the people went home and destroyed all the pagan shrines. And a good summary about Hezekiah is in the last verse of 2nd Chronicles 31:

2Chr. 31:21 He was successful, because everything he did for the Temple or in observance of the Law, he did in a spirit of complete loyalty and devotion to his God.

ECCLESIASTES 8:
Yesterday’s chapter of Ecclesiastes included quite a variety of Solomon’s proverbs, including:

Ecc. 7:5 GNT It is better to have wise people reprimand you than to have stupid people sing your praises.
20 There is no one on earth who does what is right all the time and never makes a mistake.

MATTHEW 21a:
As Jesus taught in Matthew 20, “the first will be last, the last first.” I think we will be amazed at the justice of God’s rewards. And in some sense, we all will receive “a fair day’s pay.” The meaning of that parable was matched and furthered by the story of the mother of James and John and what Jesus said to them.

Let’s pray.
Lord Jesus, at the end of the day, we are your unworthy servants. We haven’t done anything extra for You. Maybe we have managed to do part of what you told us to do. Look at how much time we have frittered away, not working! We have not worked the whole day in the hot sun, yet You have paid us the same as those who did. Others will be jealous of your rich generosity toward us. We deserve to be last, yet you have given us such high places. You have put us high enough already, Lord! We certainly don’t need to push others out of the way to get a higher place. Through your incredible generosity, You have put us higher than we deserve to be. Help us to follow your example— serving others, rather than insisting on being served. In all of this Lord, open our eyes to see what others miss. May we live our lives based not what we see, but on what is unseen.
