DAY 29 OF 31

What is Meditation?

By Robert Morris

There’s a miracle that comes with meditating on the Word of God. You might get intimidated when you read the word “meditation.” You might even think, Meditation is long. I don’t know if I can focus and meditate on just one thing for an hour or two. Have you ever been to a movie? If so, you’ve spent two hours meditating on the plot a director laid out for you. Your reaction might be: “Well, a movie is more entertaining than God’s Word.” That’s a lie of the Enemy. The best book ever written is absolutely entertaining. Think about it. There’s drama, love, betrayal, redemption, mystery—all the elements of a bestseller. You just have to read it. I’m telling you, something supernatural will happen if you will meditate on this Book. And it’s something Satan doesn’t want you to experience.

The word “meditate” is defined as giving serious thought and consideration to selected information with an implication of speaking to review the material. In other words, it means to deliberately focus on something. So how do we do that? Write a Scripture on a notecard in the morning and spend time thinking about it throughout the day. You can even take a screenshot of that verse and make it your phone’s background picture. Take your lunch hour and spend time in the Word as you eat. As you put these practices into your schedule, you’ll begin to see a miracle take place in your life.

What is the miracle? Just look at today’s verse, Joshua 1:8. It says when you meditate on God’s Word “you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” He’s talking about every area of your life—family, health, finances, relationships, etc. Here’s another example: Psalm 1:2–3 says, “His delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.” Reading the Word sets supernatural things in motion; it causes you to prosper. I promise you, something miraculous and supernatural will happen if you will meditate on the Word of God.

Prayer

God, thank You that meditating on Your Word brings prosperity to my life. Help me to memorize and meditate on Your Word every day and let it sink in. Make me like a tree that bears fruit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Memory Verse

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8

About this Plan

It Is Written

This 31-day devotional, compiled from teachings by Pastors Robert Morris and Marcus Breechen from Gateway Church, focuses on the importance of having God’s Word in your everyday life. Each day reveals what the Word is—breath, bread, water, a sword, and a lamp—and how it applies to your life. As you read, you’ll be inspired to draw closer to God and hide His Word in your heart daily.
