Fathers And Sons

DAY 1 OF 5

ENCOURAGE YOUR SONS

With my dad, it made no difference to him whether I was in the A team at school or the F team, just as long as I did my best. I really appreciated that about him. He loved me for who I was and for that I remain eternally grateful. Dads, we need to really affirm our sons and not try to live through them.

When we look at the Word of God, we see that our heavenly Father esteemed His Son greatly. He said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17). Do you know that must have meant to Jesus? It must have given Him strength to press on.

I was often unable to attend all of my sons’ and daughters’ sporting events because I was always busy trying to carve a farm out of the bush and put bread on the table. However, when I was able to go, I did. I try and make up for it with my grandchildren now.

We need to be aware of the fact that our children are up and away and out of the home in no time at all. So, while we’ve got them at home, let’s affirm them when they do something. It doesn’t matter how big or how small it might be. In fact, that’s not even the point. The point is to stand there with them, especially when they don’t succeed. I think we as dads sometimes don’t understand how important a pat on the back or that “Well done, son!” is to our children.

About this Plan

Fathers And Sons

God wants fathers to be the priest, prophet and king of their households, as well as an example for their sons. Angus Buchan encourages fathers to nourish, protect and develop the relationships they have with their sons. Through this an important family bond is strengthened, which has a significant impact on society at large.
