Put into simplest terms, prayer is the means through which we communicate with God. We don’t worship God because He needs it, but because we do. Prayer grants us the amazing opportunity to know and appreciate God for Who He is, and it positions us to receive countless blessings from His loving hand.

The place of prayer is where you meet with God to be instructed, corrected, cleansed, loved, built up, and prepared to do His will. The Bible tells us that God hears and answers our prayers. We must constantly have intimacy, or abide, in Him in order to see life change. In this age of fast-paced distraction, it’s best to keep this simple. Just talk to God authentically throughout your day!

Sometimes, prayer is about speaking; other times, it’s about listening. The third ingredient is the security that comes from sensing God’s smile of love and approval. What a sweet gift prayer is! To cultivate this habit, set a regular time and place; make sure you have an open Bible; and ensure that you come to God with a listening heart. Don’t worry about “getting it right”—He already knows what you need! 

When you step out in faith and follow God’s Spirit, you please Him. Don’t feel pressed to pray for a certain way, or for a certain length of time, or to focus on specific things because other people are doing so. Let the tide of God’s Spirit take you wherever He wills.
