Journey Of The Seed - Catch The Bible's Big Picture In 60 Days

DAY 8 OF 60

ANOTHER SEED ATTACK

[Scheduled Reading: Exodus 1-7]

As we enter a new book (Exodus), immediately there’s another assault on The Seed.

The Pharaoh of Egypt is killing baby boy Israelites. Let’s put this in seed language – the serpent is attempting to destroy members of The Seed Family.

Here’s the context. After the family of Jacob (again, that’s Israel) escaped the famine to Egypt to live with Joseph, the Israelite tribes grew… and grew and grew and grew.

Roughly two hundred years after the move to Egypt, all was forgotten of Joseph and his leadership in Egypt. The Israelites became despised by the Egyptians who feared the Israelites for their rapid growth.

First the Egyptians subjected the Israelites to harsh slavery. When that didn’t curb the Israelite growth rate, the Pharaoh sent out his decree to exterminate the baby boys.

As we’re learning in our Bible read – when bad guys start messing with God’s Seed strategy, bad things start to happen.

God had in mind a series of nasty plagues to harass Pharaoh and the Egyptians. And God chose a man named Moses to interact with the Pharaoh.

This man Moses has one of the most decorated life stories of all the characters in the Bible.

As a newborn baby, Moses was placed in a basket and sent floating along the Nile River to escape the fate of the Pharaoh’s death decree. His rescue by a princess sets up a stunning turn of events.

Baby Moses is actually nursed by his own mother and later grows up in the Pharaoh’s palace.

Up until Abraham, the Bible has been mostly focused on characters in line of The Seed. From Adam to Noah to Abraham…. Isaac…Jacob… Judah.

Joseph was the first major Bible character who fell outside the direct path of The Seed.

Moses is the next significant Bible character who falls outside the line of The Seed.

Moses is not from the line of Judah but from the line of Levi (another of the 12 tribes).

This will make more sense later.
