How The Gospel Meets Our Greatest NeedsSample
Responding to Salvation
Christ came down from Heaven to save humanity from their sin. He took our death and gave us life instead. Now, we get to respond to Him and live in this new reality as new creations.
But what does that response look like?
On one hand, it’s quite simple. You believe and confess that Christ is Lord of your life, that his death and resurrection were real moments in time that had real, cosmic effects.
On the other hand, though, the response to the gospel is incredibly difficult. Christ likens it to His death when he tells His disciples, “if anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me”(Matthew 16:24).
It’s a risky decision, but it’s the best decision one could make. When we lay our sinful life down, we pick up our redeemed life that’s only found in Him. When we carry our cross, we die like Him so that we can then live like Him. If this seems impossible or too difficult, remember that He gives us His Holy Spirit to make it easier. He makes the impossible possible and helps us when we cannot do it on our own.
Jesus tells us that he came to give us a full, abundant life (John 10:10), and that full life is only possible by responding to His salvation. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and He meets our greatest needs.
Superhero movies intrigue us because we know we need a savior. We love seeing glimpses of the Gospel message played out in books or movies, but the greatest salvation did not come from a person in a cape. Our salvation showed up in a manger, lived a sinless life, died a sinner’s death, and rose again. God entered into our story and made abundant life possible. Now, we get to live out that abundant life as we await the day that He returns and finishes his redeeming work of humanity. We join Him and He makes all things new.
Our response is simple: confess and believe in Jesus Christ. Seek His wisdom through His word and through prayer and live out the abundant life that He has laid out for you.
