Peter writes that believers will better represent Jesus Christ if they are suffering righteously than if they are suffering because of their own sin. Because we represent Jesus, we must be careful that our testimony and our speech direct during our suffering direct people to Him. Peter reminds believers that Jesus death and resurrection along with the baptism of the Holy Spirit demonstrate that we are bound to God in Christ and we cannot go back to being non-Christians. Jesus is presently in Heaven interceding on our behalf. Has your suffering caused you to doubt your salvation? Believers belong to Jesus Christ and must continue to live for Him forever. We can be encouraged by Jesus’ suffering for us and look forward to the joy of seeing Him face to face when He returns.
