Love God Greatly - 1 & 2 Peter

DAY 11 OF 54

At the time that Peter wrote this letter, about half of the population were slaves in the Roman world. Peter writes that even slaves have the opportunity to reflect Christ in their submission to their masters. This does not mean that the Bible condones slavery. On the contrary, the Bible demonstrates God’s power and grace transcending above any adverse circumstance. The suffering of the slaves was equated to slavery that Jesus suffered.

Peter quotes Isaiah 53:9 as he describes Jesus’ response to suffering and the example that His believers should follow. Jesus remained patient, quiet, and focused on God’s future plan and will for Him. When a believer is treated unjustly or goes through suffering, we must remember that we are not alone. Believers have the privilege and honor of sharing the sufferings of Jesus.
