Read To Me Daily Semester 2Sample
2SAMUEL 7-8:
To recap what we heard in 2nd Samuel, David finally became the king of all Israel, then the Lord gave him two great military victories over the Philistines. Then, after a botched attempt, David moved the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. He danced with all his might before the Lord.
Psalm 109b:
Today we read the second half of Psalm 109. When you feel that you are surrounded by people who gang up against you and slander you, then turn to this psalm. Note that Jesus would have had every right to pray like this from the cross, but He didn’t!
ROMANS 13:
Did you remember my challenge to you about Romans 12:1? Did you discover where the opening ‘Therefore’ goes back to?
Romans 12 is one of the most beautiful of all of Paul’s practical teaching chapters. He deals with the basics, ending with the most basic of all: “Do not let evil defeat you; instead, conquer evil with good.” Chapter 12 teaches us about how to evaluate ourselves and how to use our spiritual gifts, and how to respond to people who do wrong to us. Key to all of this is the first two verses.
Let’s pray.
Our Lord and God, we surrender ourselves to You. Your way is best. Our own way of thinking and acting will always be influenced by the world’s standards. We pray that You would renew our minds. Paul tells us, “Let your hope keep you joyful (yes, Lord, give us this joy!) be patient in your troubles (yes, Lord, give us patience), and pray at all times.” Yes, Lord, why do we forget to pray?! Your help is available to us. Lord, please remind me and my listener to pray. We pray that today You would enable us by the power of your Holy Spirit to conquer evil with good. Give us the ability to have sincere, selfless, and pure love for others. I pray that my listener will have a local body of believers, where he or she can experience the joy of each member serving according to the gift that You have given each one of us as a sign of your grace. And Lord, we have issues and decisions where we need to discern your good, pleasing, and perfect will. Lord, we lay down our own desires and desire complete union with You as we will pray about those things now.
