DAY 73 OF 86

1SAMUEL 26-27:
Yesterday in our reading in 1st Samuel, we heard the story of the cur Nabal and his intelligent and beautiful wife, Abigail. After Nabal was struck down by the Lord, Abigail became one of David's wives.

PSALM 105b:
Today’s poem, the second half of Psalm 105, was written to teach and remind each generation of the children of Israel about the great things God has done for the Jewish people.

ROMANS 9b:
Let me repeat my challenge from yesterday: We have entered a difficult section of Romans. Romans 12 starts with, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercies, …” But if you look back at what goes right before that in chapter 11, that doesn’t seem to be what Paul is going back to with the word ‘Therefore’. Can you find what Paul was going back to and how the sections we will read for the next few days fit together?

Let’s pray before opening God’s Word.
Our heavenly Father, we praise you again for your unchanging love for us that we read about in Romans 8. How wonderful it is that You called us, as that chapter states. So now, Lord, help us to understand your sovereignty in calling some and not others. All this has to do with your justice, and it is so difficult for us to understand. It helps us to see your sovereign hand in Psalm 105. Your will included famine for some, and prison for Joseph. But you will keep your covenant forever and your promises for a thousand generations. Your commands are for the whole world. We give thanks to you for including us in your chosen people because of our union with your Son. We belong to You! So we will sing praise to You for the wonderful things you have done. We rejoice and worship You. And the psalm says, “Go to the Lord for help, and worship him continually.” In worship we come to you now asking for help for today.
