NOAH: A 5-Day Devotional

DAY 2 OF 5

Throughout history, God has always had people seeking Him, even if at times only a remnant. In verse 9, regardless of the Bible version, the words used to describe Noah refer to his close relationship with the Lord but also his impeccable reputation with his neighbors. At a time in history when no one else did, Noah chose obedience—in his heart for God and as a witness before his community. Purity and integrity marked his life both vertically and horizontally.

We must remind ourselves that in Noah’s day there was not yet any knowledge of the Gospel. No prophecy had been given about a coming Messiah. His obedience to God was simply because he believed it was the right thing to do and the best life to lead. This personal choice to live by faith also made his life above reproach. But as we have seen throughout history, that comes into direct conflict with those intending evil by speaking condemnation and seeking violence toward the innocent. But this dynamic also displayed divine protection and provision for Noah and his family.

God honored those that Noah loved because of the spiritual authority over his household. The Lord declared His covenant was with Noah, his wife, his sons, and their wives with the second generation being the one chosen to re-populate the earth.

This personal salvation and deliverance is a pattern in Genesis. In chapter 19, we see a similar circumstance as Noah’s as God’s angels allow Lot to escape before they destroy Sodom. In verse 12, they tell him to get any of his immediate family out of the city. God offered mercy to not only Lot, but also to his household for the salvation and security of the next generation.

In the story of Joseph found later in Genesis, whether he was in the prison or the palace, on multiple occasions we see the Lord’s favor and blessing on him. God’s faithfulness constantly blessed Joseph’s obedience and eventually he and his family were fully restored, impacting generations.

We are inspired throughout Scripture by those who have stood alone, no matter the difficulty of their circumstances, to experience God’s amazing favor and blessing.

Watch as Noah tells his family the plans the Father has for them.

Because of a relationship with Jesus Christ, you too have the unique opportunity to join these biblical pillars as you choose obedience before God and mankind.
