Unfinished
Here is the truth: God is not finished with you.
I heard a song on the radio the other day by Mandisa about trusting in God and letting growth happen in your life. The song is called “Unfinished.”
“I know God is history and the kind of God He is.
He might make it a mystery, but He is proving I can trust in Him.
And yeah, I believe it.
So, I can pick myself back up and keep on telling me,
‘No, my God is not done.
He is making me a masterpiece.
No, my God is not done.’”
Here is the chorus. It is so good.
“He started something good and I am gonna believe it.
He started something good and He is gonna complete it.
So, I’ll celebrate the truth.
His work in me ain’t through.
I am just unfinished.”
He is not finished with you yet. He who has begun a good work in you will be faithful to complete it. So we continue on the journey. Not expecting to ever be perfect, but saying, “Lord, on the foundation of my faith, I want to build these six pillars in my life: Goodness, knowledge, self-control, endurance, godliness, brotherly love, love.” (2 Peter 1:5-7)
And here is what is great. Jesus said in John 15:5 that if we abide in the Lord, and He in us, we will bear much fruit. But it also says that apart from Him – apart from faith in Him – we can do nothing.
Hebrews 11:6 says that without faith it is impossible to please God, but that He is a rich rewarder of those who place their trust in Him.
Faith is the foundation from which all of these attributes spring. Do you know what these columns really are? A lot of them are simply fruits of the spirit. The vine branch isn’t wishing, “Oh, make grapes. Make grapes. Make grapes.” The branches just trust in the vine and its nourishment. Likewise, when you walk with God, trust in His Spirit, and yield to Him, the fruit comes, and you grow up and mature, and everything works as it is supposed to work. (Galatians 5:22-23)
We have all the things we need for life and godliness. From the foundation of our faith up, God will make more out of us than what He originally started with. If we let that happen, your life and my life is going to be something incredible.

About this Plan
In the Trust Fall series, Pastor Gregg Matte takes us on a passage-by-passage journey through the Second Epistle of the apostle Peter. The purpose of this series is to show us that we can fall back with confidence into our God’s safe arms. This third reading plan of the series shows us what God expects us to add to the foundation of our faith to grow and be fruitful. 2 Peter 1:5-11.
