The Anointing

Day 2: Your Rights and Privileges, and Responsibility
Let’s consider the total of scripture that points to God’s heart and desire to redeem, transform and mobilize His people for His purpose. He has made it clear that He desires that we live under His anointing and with His favor. He wants us to be so recognizable as His witnesses that the fruit of our life is a give away. We will be observed by what we say and what we do and by how we live a life that is distinguished from the rest of the world. This is how God favors us. This is God’s desire and His work to produce just such a man. Therefore, the question is not if God desires to give us His favor and anointing, but rather what are we doing to prevent it.
I mentioned “rights and privileges.” When Christ comes into a life, that person is now in God’s family. In fact, the rights of being a joint heir with Jesus Christ are mentioned below:
“He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:10-12 (NLT)
There can be no greater privilege than this sonship. But there is responsibility that must be embraced if we want God to favor our life and ministry beyond our salvation, for His favor requires continuous surrender to His Lordship.
I have had many discussions on the question if Jesus can be Lord and not our Lord. Can He save us without being Lord over all of our life? This is where His position is established and the answer is yes to both questions. He is the Lord God of the Universe. He is Who He is, whether we recognize Him as such or not. But to be Lord over our life requires our submission to Him. His Lordship increases in our eyes and in our life, even though He has never been less Lord. We just didn’t realize it.
I have found by my own life’s journey that the more I surrender in obedience to His Lordship through my personal abandonment of my rights to myself, and then to start trusting Him more deeply, the more I see who He is as Lord of the Universe, and as well, my Lord and my God. This process leads to His objective for me, which is His favor. It also makes me realize that it is not what He is preventing that keeps His favor away from me, but rather what I was doing that prevented it.
So the next step in seeking God’s anointing is the surrender to Jesus’ Lordship in every area of your life. It is His objective for you. It is the right granted to you as His son and it will be the greatest privilege you will ever have.
