LEVITICUS 19-20:
Yesterday in Leviticus we learned about the rule that all sacrifices must be done at the tabernacle, also the prohibitions of eating anything containing animal blood, and forbidden sexual practices.
PSALM 20:
Today we will read Psalm 20, which is a prayer for the nation of Israel and their king, asking for national security in time of war.
LUKE 13:
In the second half of Luke 12, Jesus taught about being ready for his return, and to be ready for division that would come about because of Jesus himself.
Let’s pray:
Lord Jesus, in symbolic language you warned us of judgment from God, saying, “The judge will hand you over to the police, and you will be put in jail. There you will stay, I tell you, until you pay the last penny of your fine.”
Lord, it is clearly our responsibility to understand about You. Lord, You have said to be ready for your coming, dressed for action and with our lamps lit— like servants waiting for their master to come back from a wedding party. O Lord, may you find us ready. And that means that we will be doing the things that you have set us to do. And if we are put in charge, we will be faithful to do the things you have told us to do in the administration of your kingdom. Lord you have said that much is required of the person to whom much is given. And we have been given much. There’s no way we can say, “O Lord, we didn’t know about that!” Because your Word has told us everything that you want us to know. Lord we look at the earth and the sky, and the sun and the moon, and we say, “How clearly these things reveal your glory. How plainly these show what You have done!” Each day announces it to the following day, each night repeats it without words to the next. O Lord, your Law and your Word are perfect. Your commands, O Lord, are trustworthy. Give us wisdom through your Word. Help us today to show our reverence for You in everything that we do.
