How To Grow UpSample
Jesus is working on you, in you, and through you.
Just as your phone or computer asks you to install new updates every few months, we need to constantly update our lives, too. And those updates? That’s maturity. It’s taking the things you learn and applying them to your life. But, just as you have to choose to accept your phone updates, you also have to choose maturity.
And maturity is an ongoing process. Your phone will never get to a place where it stops having updates. And we’ll never be done maturing. Maturity looks different at every age, but every age means more maturing. Even grown-ups are still maturing—we just don’t talk about it all that often.
But when we follow Jesus, we have some help becoming mature. Jesus is working on you, in you, and through you. Translation? Jesus is helping you be more mature so that you can be the person He designed you to be. But you still have to make the choice for yourself.
Maturity isn’t automatic. It’s a choice to apply what you’ve learned in your life to your life. We’ve spent a lot of time talking about maturity. We’ve learned that it’s time to grow up. To put away childish things. To own our own faith. And to grow through hard times. There’s no magic formula for maturity. But there are ways you can mature.
You can ask God to help you. You can ask people in your life ways they think you should grow up. And you can pray for God to show you areas you need to mature in.
Remember, we aren’t trying to grow up too fast. We’re just trying to be the best version of ourselves so that God and work in us and through us.
So, you’re ready. Embrace maturity. Just as a sculpture goes through a lot of changes—some of them really painful—you will go through a lot in your life. But you can use everything in your life to help you grow.
Watch today’s video, and think about the person you’re becoming. What changes do you want to make? How are you already maturing? Make some SMART goals for yourself about who you want to be, and show them to a parent, friend, or leader to hold you to them.
Pray: God, thank You for making me so wonderfully complex. Thank You for teaching me and for using my experiences to shape me into the person You want me to be. Help me continue to grow up and become the person You want me to be. Help me trust in You more. Help me grow through hard times. And help me become more mature and learn how to grow up wisely. In Jesus’ name, amen.
