Fighting For Mental And Emotional HealthSample
Day 1: Finding Hope and Beginning the Fight
In 2010, over 253 million prescriptions of antidepressants were given out to people in the United States alone. Since then, that number has increased by 30% every year. Depression and anxiety do not discriminate against race, age, belief, status or stage of life. There is an all-out war being waged on mental and emotional health around the world—and it is time the Church starts talking about it!
I know because I have been there before. After my dad passed away, I fell into the dark basement of depression. Through Jesus, family, friends, doctors and natural lifestyle changes, I walked up out of the basement and chose life. I have good news—it is possible to find freedom from depression, anxiety or suicidal thoughts. God created you to live a life filled with faith, peace, joy, goodness, and hope.
Fighting for mental and emotional health is not simply about reading your Bible and praying more. There are spiritual, mental, emotional and physical components to full recovery and freedom.
Is it possible to be a follower of Jesus and still battle depression? Yes! Many great leaders and prophets in the Bible walked through times of despair, depression, and discouragement—yet God used them regardless. If you are reading this today and find yourself dealing with depression, know this: you are not alone, your faith is not broken, God is still for you and He desires to walk with you to victory.
The next seven days will focus on different areas in life we can fight for mental and emotional health. I pray as you fix your eyes on Jesus, dig into the Bible and begin to fight, you will find true mental and emotional health in a way that will change your life forever.
Pray with me today: “Father, I fix my eyes on you today. Help me to live with full mental and emotional health. I surrender to you and believe that with you, all things are possible. Teach me how to live in the abundant life you designed and desire for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
