The Ascent

DAY 3 OF 15

ONE HUNDRED PIANOS

Psalm 122 talks about all the tribes of Israel ascending to Jerusalem, to worship and to praise God.

As the Church, we gather all the tribes, all denominations, all the people who are followers of Jesus, who are Christians. We are called to gather and look to Christ, regardless of race, gender, age, whatever background we have or denomination we are part of. We are called to gather and worship in unity and community.

“Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? They are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to another standard to which each one must individually bow. So one hundred worshipers met together, each one looking away to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could possibly be, were they to become 'unity' conscious and turn their eyes away from God to strive for closer fellowship.”

About this Plan

The Ascent

The Ascent… is an invitation to climb. It’s an invitation to proximity. It’s an invitation to intimacy. In the Old Testament there are 15 psalms of ascent. They are songs that Israel sang on their way to celebrate God at festivals. They express amazing grace and they quiet anxious fears. They are songs that provide courage and support as we travel the road of faith and discover who we are and what God’s called us to. It has been said that the Psalms of Ascent are like placing your feet in the footprints of others and reminding ourselves to be moved again; to keep walking forward in the direction of God. This devotional is an invitation to lift our eyes and to ascend the heights; to becoming Jesus’ climbing companions.
