7 Days Of Finding RestSample
Jesus’s gentleness lifts you up
Jesus says in His Word, ““Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”” (see Matthew 11:28-29)
Adolphe d'Houdetot said it so well: “True humility never remains unknown; it’s like a spring flower hidden within the grass that releases its fragrance far and wide.”
Humility is the soul’s true beauty. Humility and gentleness don’t make grand entrances. They make it possible to find rest...unlike anger and pride, which are wearisome to the soul.
The best teacher of humility and gentleness is the One who incarnates these qualities. Here’s what God says of Jesus: ““Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles. He will not cry out, nor raise His voice, nor cause His voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench; He will bring forth justice for truth.”” (Isaiah 42:1-3)
Jesus doesn’t cry out...He doesn’t seek to make Himself heard by force. He is gentle.
Jesus doesn’t break you. On the contrary, He restores you; He restores your soul. The smoking flax He will not quench...and if all you have left today is a heart that’s still beating, there is still hope for you. God can always do something beautiful with you.
Today, with gentleness, He lifts you up and restores you. The chastisement for your peace was upon Him...you don’t have to be afraid any longer.
