DAY 3 OF 8

“Our God” Devotion
Passion feat. Chris Tomlin

Sometimes we read the Bible and marvel at all the ways Jesus “solved” problems 2,000 years ago. He turned water to wine. He raised the dead to life. He healed the sick. He parted the seas. He flooded the earth. Time and time again, He rescued, comforted, provided and proved that He is capable of intervening in our time of need.

We believe these stories are true, but we have trouble believing He can do the same work in our own lives. Our problems are just too big, too hard, too insurmountable. Life happens and God becomes distant, simply a character in incredible stories of old, instead of a Father longing for a daily relationship with His children.

This world can take its toll. It will beat us up and use us till there’s nothing left. Some days, life wins and we surrender to the fate of a bad day, a hard circumstance or an unfair hand that’s been dealt to us. When we’re in the middle of a crisis, it’s hard to imagine that there’s One who holds the whole world in His hands.

Our peers tell us to stop believing. Culture tells us to give up. The enemy tells us we’re defeated. He whispers lies that there’s no hope. Thankfully, we serve a God who doesn’t answer to our peers, culture or the enemy.

Jesus tells us to keep the faith. Jesus tells us to stay in the game. Jesus tells us the victory has already been won.

Our God is greater
Our God is stronger
God You are higher than any other

We may be small, but the God who lives in our hearts is bigger than any problem we will ever face this side of heaven. In Romans 8:31 (NIV), Paul asks this question, “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”

The enemy wants us to believe the mountain looming in front of us is just too large to scale. The truth is we’re really not capable of climbing it alone. We’ll never be able to survive the inevitable twists and turns of life without a Savior.

Paul continues, “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all — how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.” (Romans 8:32-33, NIV)
