Glory Be
Listen to “Glory Be” then read the following:
You’re shipwrecked at sea.
Scraps of the boat sink around you. You try to swim away, but a heavy piece of the hull pins you to the rocky ocean floor. You can’t float to the surface to gasp for air.
No one could expect you to save yourself in that situation. Not only do you need to be brought to the surface and resuscitated, you need to be brought safely to land.
Without Jesus, we’re all stuck in spiritual deadness. We can’t pull ourselves up by the bootstraps or rescue ourselves.
We aren’t just bad people who need to be good; we’re dead people who need to be brought to life.
Grace is God giving us what we don’t deserve. When we are at our worst, held captive by our sins and rebelling against God, Jesus intervenes. Because of Jesus, we have the ability not only to be given a second chance at life, but the opportunity to live a great life.
We can’t work hard enough or be good enough, God loves us far more than we deserve or can imagine.
God’s grace makes all the difference. It moves us from death to life and from lost to found. What does this extraordinary grace say about God?
