With God's Help: Devotions From Time of GraceSample
Somebody stop me
A letter from a troubled "Time of Grace" viewer: “Am I truly saved though I continue to sin?”
That cry from the heart is a common experience with all Christians, including St. Paul: “I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. . . . Who will rescue me from this body of death?” (Romans 7:18,24). It is a hard truth that sin will live within us until we are raised up on judgment day and personally transformed in body and soul. In heaven we will never sin again, nor even desire to do so.
In the meantime, we find ourselves in the middle of a war. But it’s a war that Christ has already won. When your sins trouble you, as they should, look not to yourself, your worth, your record, your achievements, nor even your good intentions; but look to the cross of Christ. Who will rescue us from this body of death? Jesus did.
His death once and for all paid your obligations in God’s court. You are declared not guilty. With that triumphant verdict and with new confidence you can return to the battle, seeking to honor God with your life for his matchless gift of a Savior.
