James. A 21-day reading plan by Doxa Deo.Sample
James 1:22-25 (ESV) But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
We should not only believe the Word, but live as if we believe the Word - living in alignment with that. “Forgetting”, means choosing to live out of alignment with the eternal purposes of God.
What do you see in the mirror? As a Christ-follower, you are created and restored to the image of Christ. Once you live true to God’s Word and true to your new Genesis nature, you also need to persevere in it. Don’t fall back into old paradigms and habits.
Reflection:
Do you live as if you believe God?
Is there perhaps an area of your life that needs to be aligned with God’s purposes?
