DAY 4 OF 5

Holy Spirit Baptism

When John the Baptist baptized Jesus in the river Jordan, God the Father was not going to be left out. He was eager to baptize Jesus as well, but not with water. Rather, Jesus would be baptized with the Holy Spirit!

The Bible explains how the Spirit of God descended and remained upon Jesus:

After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”

– Matthew 3:16–17, NLT

By being filled with the Spirit Himself, Jesus set a pattern for His children to follow. Once saved, the next step for the believer is this marvelous infilling. Before Jesus was filled, He did no mighty works. After He was filled, He became unstoppable. Certainly, if Jesus needed the Holy Spirit in order to do the work of God, you and I need Him as well.

When you accepted Jesus as Savior, the Holy Spirit came to live in you. However, being baptized in Him involves far more than God simply setting up home in your heart. Rather, it means you become utterly soaked in His power, presence and personality. You become wholly united with Him, ready to labor as His vessel to plunder hell and populate Heaven!

About this Plan

Spirit Of Fire By Tamryn Klintworth

Jesus needs all believers to share the good news, no matter where they are. Spirit of Fire encourages believers to work with the Holy Spirit, spread the promise of redemption through Jesus Christ, and set the captives free. Each day of this 5-day reading plan features thoughts on a specific theme (such as witnessing and baptism) and ends with a Scripture verse. The content for this reading plan is based on Tamryn Klintworth’s Spirit of Fire .
