7
A Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the Lord concerning the words of Cush, a Benjamite.
1O Lord my God, in You I put my trust; # Ps 11:1
save me from all those who persecute me, and deliver me, # Ps 31:15
2lest they tear my soul like a lion, # Isa 38:13
rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver. # Ps 50:22
3O Lord my God, if I have done this,
if there is iniquity in the palms of my hands, # 1Sa 24:11; 2Sa 16:7–8
4if I have repaid evil to him who was at peace with me, # Ps 55:20
or have delivered my adversary without cause,
5then may the enemy pursue my life and overtake me;
may my enemy trample my life to the ground,
and lay my honor in the dust. Selah
6Arise, O Lord, # Ps 3:7; 44:23 in Your anger;
rise up because of the rage of my adversaries,
and awaken Yourself for me; You have commanded justice.
7So shall the congregation of the peoples surround You;
For their sakes, therefore, return on high.
8The Lord will judge the peoples;
grant me justice, O Lord, # Ps 43:1 according to my righteousness,
and according to my integrity within me. # Ps 26:1
9May the evil of the wicked come to an end;
may You vindicate the righteous;
You are a righteous God who examines the minds and hearts. # Jer 11:20; Rev 2:23
10My defense depends on God,
who saves the upright in heart. # Ps 125:4
11God is a righteous judge,
and God has indignation every day.
12If a man does not repent,
God will sharpen His sword; # Dt 32:41
He has bent His bow and made it ready.
13He has prepared for Himself deadly weapons;
He makes His arrows flaming shafts. # Ps 45:5
14Behold, the wicked man writhes in pain of iniquity;
he has conceived mischief and brought forth falsehood. # Job 15:35; Jas 1:15
15He who digs a hole and hollows it
will then fall into his own pit. # Job 4:8; Ps 119:85
16His mischief will return on his own head; # 1Ki 2:32; Est 9:25
his violence will descend on the crown of his own head.
17I will thank the Lord according to His righteousness, # Ps 71:15–16
and will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High. # Ps 9:2
