Proverbs 14
14
1The wise woman builds her house, # Ru 4:11
but the foolish woman pulls it down with her hands.
2He who walks in his righteousness fears the Lord, # Pr 28:6
but he who is devious in his ways despises Him.
3From the mouth of a fool comes a rod for his back,
but the lips of the wise will preserve them. # Pr 12:6
4Where no oxen are, the trough is clean,
but great is the harvest by the strength of the ox.
5A truthful witness does not lie,
but a false witness breathes out lies. # Ex 23:1; Pr 6:19
6A scoffer seeks wisdom, and does not find it,
but knowledge comes easily to him who is discerning. # Pr 8:9; 17:24
7Leave the presence of a foolish man,
when you do not perceive in him the lips of knowledge.
8The wisdom of the prudent is to consider his way,
but the folly of fools is deceit.
9Fools mock at atoning for sin, # Pr 10:23
but among the upright there is good will.
10The heart knows its own grief, # 1Sa 1:10
and in its joy, a stranger cannot share.
11The house of the wicked will be destroyed, # Job 8:15
but the tent of the upright will flourish. # Pr 3:33
12There is a way that seems right to a man, # Pr 12:15
but its latter end leads to death. # Pr 16:25; Ro 6:21
13Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful,
and the end of joy is grief. # Ecc 2:2
14The perverse in heart will be repaid for his own ways,
but a good man will be rewarded for his ways. # Pr 12:14
15The simple gives credence to every word,
but the prudent attends to his steps.
16A wise man fears and departs from evil, # Pr 3:7; 22:3
but the fool throws off restraint and is careless.
17He who is quick-tempered acts foolishly, # Pr 14:29; 15:18
and a man of evil schemes is hated.
18The simple inherit folly,
but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
19The evil will bow before the good, # Ge 42:6
the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
20The poor man is hated even by his own neighbor,
but the rich man has many friends. # Pr 19:4
21He who despises his neighbor sins, # Pr 11:12
but blessed is he who has mercy on the poor. # Pr 19:17
22Do they not err who devise evil? # Pr 12:2
But mercy and truth will find those who devise good.
23In all toil there is profit,
but idle chatter of the lips leads only to poverty.
24The crown of the wise is their wealth,
but the folly of fools crowns them with folly.
25A true witness saves souls,
but a false witness utters lies. # Pr 14:5
26In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence, # Pr 18:10; 19:23
and His sons will have a place of refuge.
27The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, # Pr 13:14
to depart from the snares of death.
28In the multitude of people is the glory of a king,
but in the lack of subjects is the ruin of a prince.
29He who is slow to anger # Pr 16:32; Ecc 7:9; Jas 1:19 is of great understanding,
but he who is hasty in temper exalts folly.
30A sound mind is the life of the flesh,
but envy is the rottenness of the bones. # Pr 12:4
31He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, # Pr 17:5; 22:2
but he who honors Him is kind to the poor.
32The wicked is banished in his wickedness,
but the righteous has a refuge in his death. # Ge 49:18; 2Ti 4:18
33In the heart of the discerning wisdom reposes,
and in the midst of fools it is made known. # Pr 12:16; 29:11
34Righteousness exalts a nation,
but sin is a reproach to any people.
35The favor of the king is toward a wise servant,
but his wrath falls on him who brings shame. # Mt 24:45–51
