Journey to EasterBeispiel
Holy Saturday
Holy Saturday. I often think about how the followers of Jesus felt on the Saturday after Jesus died on the cross. All their hopes of what they believed Jesus came for were gone before their very eyes. As they watched Him die on the cross, and prepared His body for burial, how much despair and disbelief did they feel?
On that devastating day, they did not know what was to come. They didn’t know that He would rise again, victoriously defeating death and taking away our sin. Sunday was coming and, with it, the greatest gift we could ever imagine or ask for, the gift of salvation and reconciliation with our heavenly Father.
The disciples didn’t know this, but we do. As Holy Saturday comes around and we stop and reflect on the pain and despair that Jesus was subjected to, we know that Sunday is coming. We know that through Jesus’ death and resurrection, we can be reconciled with our heavenly Father and spend eternity with Him.
Whilst Holy Saturday is a solemn reminder of what Jesus endured for us, it is also a day of faithful expectation and joy knowing that when He conquered the grave, He defeated our greatest enemy and threat – death. He made a way for us to have eternal life with Him. He made a way for us to be made whole and righteous. And He reminded us that no one would ever love us as much as He does.
May you have a blessed Easter celebrating the Saviour of the world.
