The Ultimate Upgrade

Jesus is the ultimate upgrade to the Old Testament covenant because it was misunderstood. The old covenant was not at fault for Israel’s failure—the people were. They were unfaithful and grumbled against the law of the covenant without knowing its purpose. It was a tangible blueprint pointing to the new covenant in Jesus.

The Old Testament describes the priesthood’s responsibilities and the service of the tabernacle, and both foreshadow the reality in heaven. The divinity of Jesus is the obvious upgrade. Jesus is the high priest because He’s in the highest priestly position. He is at the right hand of God, a place of honor that affirms His equal authority with the Father. If Jesus were just an earthly priest, He would have been limited. As God, Jesus had no limits and could complete the law’s requirements for us.

Animal sacrifices are no longer necessary. The pressure to uphold the religious law is alleviated. Relying on imperfect people to lead us perfectly is no longer a concern. These old covenant requirements have been replaced with a greater new covenant. Jesus is the ultimate upgrade because He was sacrificed, fulfilled the law for us, and is the most reliable.

Question: Some people like the upgrades on their devices, and others don’t. What’s not to love about Jesus’ ultimate upgrade of the new covenant, and how does it bless you?

Prayer: Start your prayer with gratitude for the new covenant and God’s loving mercy. Ask Him to reveal the depths of His heart as He planned the new covenant, and worship Him by expressing your emotional reaction.
