Pray That Promise Beispiel
Rivers of Living Water
The Old Testament promise to quench the thirst of those in need (Isaiah 41:17-18) was echoed in Jesus’s words in the New Testament: “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” The Scripture goes on to say that “[b]y this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive…” (John 7:39).
Before he departed this earth, Jesus told the disciples, “It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the [Holy Spirit] will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you… [I have been with you, but] he… will be in you” (John 16:7, 14:17). He was saying, in essence, “He’s going to be that water that has been promised from the Old Testament. But this will be more personal. You will partake of my nature, for the Holy Spirit will be living within you, refreshing you with fresh infusions of the Spirit, bringing peace and joy. Trust me, ask me. You’ll have rivers of living water. You don’t have to go to a church to get it. I’ll meet you in your innermost being with my promised Holy Spirit. And then you will live above all circumstances; the circumstances will not control you, for I am above all your circumstances.”
