John 3:16
John 3:16 is one of the most widely quoted verses from the Bible, and possibly the most famous verse! It’s even been called the ‘Gospel in a nutshell’ because it’s considered a summary of the central theme of traditional Christianity. However, the profound love of God remains incomprehensible without revelation from the Spirit of God. Even then, the pursuit of continual revelation should be a constant, growing desire, allowing us, together with all the saints, to grasp the vast dimensions of this divine LOVE – how high, wide, and deep it is.
Reflecting on my early days as a Christian, attending church didn’t immediately translate into feeling or understanding God’s love. It wasn’t until I earnestly sought the Lord with all my heart that I encountered His love, and everything changed. Jesus became real, and His love was tangible. I no longer had to squeeze life from the written Word; He was alive, and He was for me. Imagine that! It was the LOVE OF GOD that brought Jesus into our lives. That’s the extent of His love for you and me.
PRAYER: Holy Spirit, open our eyes and ears this day to comprehend in a greater measure the love of God so that we may be a blessing to You and to this world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
NB: Depending on your preferred translation, you might encounter John 3:16–21 with or without quotation marks. Regardless of whether these are the words of Jesus to Nicodemus or John’s commentary, the effect remains the same.
