How do you feel when it’s Friday? Or if you know you have the next day off of work? Do you feel relieved? Maybe you know you’ll have the opportunity to get caught up on sleep and housework. In a way, Friday is a type of freedom for those who work Monday through Friday. You know that you have two days to relax and catch up.
Whether it’s in the form of a weekend, a vacation, or something different, there is nothing like the feeling of freedom. It feels like a release, a deep breath, and a sense of possibility. When we stop to think about what Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection mean for us, it feels the same way. We have freedom from the law of sin and death. We have freedom from the way things used to work, from judgment, condemnation, and exclusion. And that is the best kind of freedom imaginable, a freedom exactly as Paul describes, a Spirit of life.
Take some time today to thank God for the freedom available to us and the Spirit of life we have access to. What in your life is keeping you from having the freedom Jesus made possible? What would it look like for you to live out of this Spirit of life and not from the law of sin and death?

Everyone is different, yet we all share a common quality. Deep down, we were created to be deeply known by others and by God. We were made to experience relationships with others and a relationship with God that’s personal. Because when it’s personal, it changes things. Things matter more. People matter more. Over the next few weeks, we will discover a personal God and what that means for us.
