JOEL, FREEDOM THROUGH FASTING AND PRAYER
For anyone who has ever felt the heavy weight of a season spent away from the Lord or quenching His Spirit, Joel 2:12-27 holds many powerful reminders of God’s patience, faithfulness, and mercy. Verse 13 states that if we expose our hearts in brokenness and return to Him, we will see how gracious, compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love He truly is! Fasting can represent an emptying of oneself; a way of denying our own will and desires to humble ourselves before Him.
Just like the father in the parable of the prodigal son, God is always there to welcome the weary rebel with great joy and open arms. Fasting can help us position our hearts and minds in the right frame to recognize when and how we have gone astray, and to in turn, run to the merciful arms of the Father who loves us so unconditionally. Joel reminds us that beyond even receiving mercy, God delights and desires to bless us! As He promises in Joel 2:25, “I will repay you for the years the locust have eaten.”
Are you in a place or season where you feel his Spirit beckoning you to return to Him in a new way? Don’t wait! Return today so He can cover you with His love and restore what has been stolen.

We all know that there is power in prayer. Prayer is defined in several ways: it is how we praise and worship our glorious Lord and Savior; it is our most powerful weapon; our open door to communication with the living God; the vehicle to confess our sin; how to find God's will for our lives and one of the ways we can hear the voice of our precious Savior. It is not very often that we hear about fasting with prayer, either from the pulpit or in our conversations as a church community. Yet, the Bible has so much to say on this subject and so many wonderful accounts of deliverance, forgiveness, and miracles that happened when God's people did fast and pray together. This ten-day reading plan will focus on some of the Biblical accounts and show us the undeniable power and movement of God when His people humble themselves through fasting and prayer.
