Drop It

DAG 4 AF 7

Bartimaeus couldn't see, but he could hear, he could talk, and he could get up on his feet. When something is going wrong in our lives, our tendency is to focus on those things rather than the things that are working. If Bartimaeus had stayed focused on his blindness, he would just keep on begging and his miracle would have passed him by. But he began to use his voice, and when the haters shouted him down, he turned his voice up and started shouting.

Jesus always welcomed those who jumped the rope-line—those who took fate in their own hands, who stood up and shouted when everyone said to be quiet. There have been many people who needed a miracle from Jesus who had to jump the rope-line. But they found the one thing that could lead to their miracle and that's what they focused on. For Bartimaeus, it was standing up and screaming for the attention he needed.

You may not have everything that other people have, but you can have faith. Bartimaeus' faith was manifest in his voice and his movement. He dropped his cup, stood up and, with the little bit of faith he had, he screamed.

Faith may at times seem difficult to grasp, but at its simplest, faith is seeing Jesus for who he is and keeping your eyes on him. If you get caught up in what people think, then that will be a rope-line between you and your breakthrough. Don’t let your age, your past, your circumstances, or your image define you.

You are defined by what God says about you, and you need look no further than Jesus to find out what that is. Jesus says that you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength. But if you can see Jesus for who he is, you'll see you for who you really are. God wants to move you from begging with a cup to abundant living. God wants to move you from where you are to where you want to be. The key that unlocks this is faith is seeing Jesus for who he really is. If you can stand up and scream, then you are on your way to the blessing that you need. If you believe enough about Jesus to jump the rope-line, Jesus believes enough about you to give you your breakthrough.
