God’s Heart For The Poor

DAG 16 AF 31

A God-Honoring King

This psalm is one of the “royal psalms,” psalms that concentrate on the life of the king. It is often thought that King Solomon wrote this psalm in the early years of his reign. He seeks God’s help as he rules over the people in order to judge them rightly and in a God-honoring way.

While God is King of His people, the earthly king was His representative. He was obligated to lead in a way that honored God and His law. One of those obligations was to defend the afflicted and save the children of the poor. He was expected to hear their cases and serve as their defenders.

Solomon also said that the oppressors of the poor will be crushed, which takes away their power to hurt again. They will be punished for the harm they have done. This is the responsibility of a God-honoring King.

We can have a part as well. Justice is important to God and He blesses those who save the children of the poor. How can you help a child in need today? Look at the physical needs, but don’t stop there. See the the needs of a child’s heart.
