It is Finished
The Easter Story comes to a close in this victorious scene in Matthew 28. Can you put yourself in Mary Magdalene’s shoes right before she hears the angel’s voice? In your mind, you know Jesus is dead, but your heart is holding out for the faintest of hopes that He still lives.
Then a glorious, radiant angel appears in front of you and tells you what you had hardly dared to hope.
He has risen. Just as He said.
The battle has been won. It is finished.
As you head to your Easter celebrations this weekend, I pray that hope would overflow in your heart because of the finished work of Christ. Yes, we are still building the kingdom of God on earth. Yes, we are still being sanctified. But we are not doing all of those things to get to a place of love and victory, but we are doing it from a place of love and victory. And knowing that changes everything.
It quiets the striving in my mind of proving myself. No longer do I have to wonder if I made the right sacrifices or repeated the right prayers in order to be accepted as one of God's children.
Our victory has been secured and we can confidently share the good news, grow in Christ, and love others as we await Christ's second coming. The ultimate Promise Keeper indeed kept His word. He is risen, just as He said.
If you haven't accepted Christ as your savior yet and would like to do so, please pray these words along with me:
"Jesus, I acknowledge I am a sinner and I am in need of salvation. Thank you for your sacrifice on the cross. Come into my heart and make me new. Thank you for your gift of eternal life. Help me to learn to walk with you now. In Jesus' name, amen."
If you prayed that prayer, please let a trusted friend or pastor know so they can guide you in your next steps in your relationship with Jesus.
It's the best decision you could ever make.
