Pneuma Life: Holy Spirit in YouSampl
Heaven's Resources...
…who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
2 Corinthians 1:21-22
Yes, the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in the Lord Jesus.
The Apostle Paul tells us that the Holy Spirit within us is God’s guarantee of our vast inheritance in Him, both now and in the future (Eph. 1:13-14). Let’s look at the word in the original Greek:
Arrabon Greek—Meaning: A guarantee, pledge, deposit, down payment, or security.
Consider it this way. Jesus’ sacrificial death made a full payment for our redemption. The Holy Spirit then acts as a seal or a down payment on our lives as we receive our inheritance in Christ here on earth and in heaven (Eph. 1:18).
The Greek word arrabon also describes an engagement or wedding ring. What another beautiful type of the Holy Spirit’s seal upon our lives as we ponder Jesus’ pledge to us that we will partake of the great marriage supper of the Lamb as His bride (Rev. 19:7-9).
God’s Word tells us that the love of God has been shed abroad in our hearts. Notice that the word used here is about our hearts, not our minds. This wording intimates that His love is not only known intellectually but experientially as well, adding an exhilarating dimension to our walk with Him. This is the Holy Spirit’s work. Knowing His felt presence coupled with the anchoring foundation of God’s Word in our lives will see us through any tempest or storm of the enemy, the world, or any difficult circumstances (Rom. 5:3-5).
But there is more.
The indwelling Holy Spirit provides all the resources of heaven, revealing our inheritance. Indeed, we have been given every spiritual blessing and enablement in Him. He empowers us to live Book of Acts lives as we grow in greater surrender to His will and leading. Author Maureen Broderson writes:
One of the greatest blessings of all is Christ did not leave us alone... He left us Himself in the person of the Holy Spirit—not a percentage of the Holy Spirit, not a junior Holy Spirit. At the very moment we received Christ as our Savior and Lord, the same Holy Spirit who raised Jesus Christ from the dead became alive in us.
The immediacy of His presence equips and empowers us to live our lives, with all of our unique personal challenges, as Jesus would live them. Astonishing, isn’t it?*
