DYDD 2 O 3

The Three Wicked Spirits

Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah. Jude 1:11 (NKJV)

Jude 1:11 highlights the three wicked spirits that threaten the Christian faith. The first is “the way of Cain” (lust of the flesh). Genesis 4: 3 reveals the impure motive of Cain. He lacked the attitude and randomly picked some fruits to be his offering. Unlike Abel, Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. Cain had a heart that was filled with envy and hatred. He lured Abel into the field and killed him.

“The greed of Balaam” (the love of money) – Balaam, the mercenary prophet, was motivated by the idea of financial gain to sell out Israel. For personal profit, he enticed the Israelites into embracing a life of immoral sensuality.

“The rebellion of Korah” (rebellion against authority) – Korah, a Levi-priest, had no respect for authority. He was envious of God’s authority given to Moses and Aaron and organized a revolution. God hates rebellion. Rebellion is a trademark of Satan, who started the first rebellion in heaven. Rebellion will never lead you to victory but destruction.

Prayer

Dear God, I pray I may not walk the way of Cain nor be attracted to financial gain. Rule over me, help me not to resist Your authority in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Through the Bible: Jude

Despite its brevity, the letter must have been held in high regard due to Jude’s familial relationship with Jesus. The letter reminds Christ’s followers to beware of false teachers and ungodly people who have crept into church communities. Jude speaks of their due punishment and encourages believers always to stand firm in the truth and love of Jesus, who can present us blamelessly on judgment day.
