Ephesians: Tear Down These Walls

DYDD 7 O 23

The simple confession, “Jesus is Lord” is at the very heart of our faith and the centre of every Jesus movement in history.

Our confession is “The tomb is empty and the throne is occupied!” Jesus has risen. Jesus has ascended. Jesus is on the throne. And Jesus is supreme.

All this is true of him now, it will be true forever, and it always was true! This remains true in the church and in the world! Jesus is Lord.

There is no domain, no space, no realm, no province or country, no era of history, no time in the past nor the future, no corner of the globe, no nook in the universe where Jesus does not reign supreme. He has no equal, no rival, no match. He is Lord. His name is the name above every name.

Abraham Kuyper said it this way, “There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry, Mine!”

This means that all of our lives matter to God.

Your work and your worship matters. Everything matters: your wallet, your bedroom, your notes app, your browsing history, your friendship, your car, your sexuality, your cat or dog, your cereal, and your jeans. There’s no corner of our lives where we shouldn’t expect to encounter the presence and purpose of Jesus.

But we live in a world that seeks to drive a wedge between the sacred and the secular. We’re told that certain things like religion and politics are private matters and should not be dragged into the public square.

Sometimes, we believe this lie. We start living as if Jesus only cares about our Sundays and Wednesday nights. But ours is a 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week, 365-day-a-year kind of faith!

How does the reign and rule of Jesus make a difference for your Monday? Your work, job, career, or study? How does it make a difference to you today? Right now? Because Jesus is King of this very moment!
