Real Hope: The Attributes of GodSampl
God Is Infinite
‘Ok! I’ve got a google-free question, kids.’ My youngest looks eager to test her mettle. Her older sister is intrigued but not yet ready to show it. ‘Give me other words,’ I ask, ‘for “Infinite”.’ Eye rolling and thinking face.
‘Endless. Infinity and beyond. Doesn’t end.’ Youngest is first out of the gates.
‘What about – doesn’t have a beginning OR end?’ A confident smile and now eye contact.
‘If there’s no beginning – then it doesn’t exist…’ (unsavoury name calling now).
We take the beginning and end of things for granted. But what do we make of a God who has no beginning or end? It’s so confusing. Does it make Him less real because He’s so confusing? Instead of fixating on the confusion, why not follow Isaiah’s lead? Accept that our brains aren’t wired to understand the ‘always’ nature of God. Instead celebrate that fact that nothing confuses God. He’s seen everything. There is no ‘bad time to call’ Him. He’s always ready to listen. He never has a ‘bad day’.
Life is complex. When you’re next faced with something you don’t understand, look to someone who does understand. There’s always more to learn. Thankfully we are loved by a God who’s always there!

Have you ever tried to explain God to someone? Not just what He has done, but who He is. There’s so much about God that is hard to fully comprehend. He is so majestic and omnipotent that mere words sometimes don’t do Him justice. The study of God’s attributes is not just about acquainting ourselves with Him, but is about getting know Him. To build a greater relationship with Him.
