The YouTube or Instagram of Heaven
by Rev. Roger Woller
The Apostle John in Revelations, Chapter 22, describes heaven: a river of the water of life as clear as crystal. A tree of life with its leaves used for the healing of the nations. Best of all, no longer any curse, meaning no sins or any consequences of sins. Jesus, the Lamb of God, our Savior is here.
When we are in heaven, we are with Jesus—in His eternal presence never to be alone again, never to be in the darkness of sin, never to be afraid of anything again, and never to be separated from Jesus, the Lamb of God.
What Will Heaven Look Like?
John says, “There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.” That verse gives us a YouTube or Instagram view of heaven.
Who would not want to live in a place like heaven? How can I get there? Do I have to pay to get there? Do I have to do something to get there? How can I get to heaven knowing what I know now? God, in the Scriptures, tells us that the answer is found in His Word.
The jailor of Paul and Silas at Philippi was scared to death when the foundations of the prison were shaking because of an earthquake. He was about to kill himself when Paul and Silas stopped him. The jailor asked the most important question, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
The answer given then is still the same answer today: “...Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” (Acts 16:31 NASB)
The jailor then continued to listen to God’s Word and we now need to do the same. We need to grow in our faith every day. The Psalmist says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” (Psalms 119:105 NASB)
Jesus suffered and died for our sins. He rose from the grave and will someday take us to heaven to be with him in eternal light and reign with him for ever and ever.
Prayer: Almighty and everlasting God, give us an increased faith, hope, and love that we may obtain what you promise and reign with you for ever and ever. Amen.
