Reflect on Eternity and Devote Yourself to God

Solomon was the wealthiest man in the world. He had everything anyone could ever want. Yet at the end of his life, he said he had simply been chasing the wind. He did not know where he was going, and therefore he went nowhere.

Many people are consumed with the temporary and forget the eternal. But we do not want our lives to be that way. We are not just chasing the wind; we are going somewhere. We have an eternal destiny. God is calling us to make a difference. How do we live with a forever mindset in a world consumed with the temporary?

First of all, understand the system. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life do not come from God. They will pass away. Satan is called the prince of this world (John 12:31); he has created a system to consume us with the temporary so that we do not think about what is eternal. These last two years have been such a difficult time, especially with the Covid-19 pandemic. Many have lost loved ones— moms, dads, brothers, sisters, cousins, etc. Our generation tends to want to push death away. We want to get it over with as soon as possible. We have the funeral as quickly as possible, if we have one at all. But God wants to use this moment to help us reflect deeply on eternity. We must keep our hearts and minds on the Father.

Declare your devotion to God. Lucifer offered the kingdoms of this world to Jesus. After Jesus spent 40 days of fasting, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and offered Him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor in exchange for His worship. Satan was lying, as always, because Jesus already owns the kingdoms of this world and will one day rule over all of them. But Jesus said, “No. My devotion is not to you. It is not to the world’s system. My devotion is to my Father and Him only will I worship and love.”

To live with a forever mindset, you need to declare your devotion to God. Proclaim that “Nothing in this world, no person, no system, no job, no paycheck, nothing is worthy of my devotion and worship except the Living God and Him only.”
