DAY 6: Embrace your creativity

One of many things that I am thankful for is the creative people God has placed in my life. Some are world famous, some are changing the world one day at a time. But each one of them are unique and have so much to learn from. I often have some wonderful inspiring talks with them, spark new perspectives, share new experiences. It is a rewarding time of exchange of new ideas.  

When it comes to creating, one thing that is always common with us all is that we never really feel like our creation is READY. I assume most of you reading this can relate to that feeling.
Every day you review your creative work, you have a new way of looking at it, a better way of doing it, because every day you are learning something new. You are intentionally growing where God has placed you, you are mindful of what is happening in and around you, and you are in constant communication with God to know what to make of it.

The other common trait you see is always looking for ways that have not been explored. If there is something you want to say, then how differently can you say it? If there is something you want to sing, then how differently can you do it? If there is a business idea you have, then what sets it apart from the million other business ideas out there? 

One of the most profound understandings of creating something new starts with stepping into it with faith. 

That is always the first stepping stone. And it is never an easy step to make. It comes with a lot of sacrifices, with humility, with grace and with the conviction of having to do it the only way.

We all have faith. 

But faith MUST always be followed by an act of faith.

To create something new means to bring into existence what has never been there. Why does it require faith? Because, when you start to create what’s never been done, there is a greater fear of failing at it. Faith puts that fear into context. Faith draws on a higher power and bigger perspective. It requires believing in what you create, it requires the divine nature of Christ in you, the cosmic framework of the mind and the counsel of the Holy Spirit. Faith, being the bedrock of your creation, will not just make you a paragon but also reflect the quintessence of who you belong to. 

When you think of the two common traits I mentioned earlier– the conclusion you will come to:
They all want it to say something NEW. They want to make people think differently, feel differently and make it worth their time. The creators of time all feel that they exist for the very reason that they can make a difference. That they have something different in them that no one else has, because God has created each one us to be unique with a special calling on our lives to create and make a difference.

 
They do not just create but they also inspire those around them to do the same. Creativity is contagious.

We are made to use our God-given creativity to cultivate the potential of the creation around us. 

Martin Luther once said,

“The Christian shoemaker does his duty not by putting little crosses on the shoes, but by making good shoes, because God is interested in good craftsmanship.”

God is not interested in you wearing your cross. He is interested in how you use the power of that cross in your everyday work. Are you adding your own personal truth to it? Are you being authentic to who God created you to be or are you interested in trying to be someone else?

The fear to embrace creativity comes from the fear of failing at it. But here is the good news:

It’s impossible to lack creativity while standing in the presence of the Creator. Our God has graced us with an intrinsic ability to create. To design beauty from nothing. To write, to draw, to build, to sing and to dance for something and someone bigger than ourselves…

Each of us are created in the imago Dei and we have the ability to step out of the ordinary and the mundane to live boldly for Christ. It’s time for you to embrace who you are – every part of it (that includes your creativity). 

The Lord always has a purpose for blessing us with gifts—and He wouldn’t be so clear about our creative prowess if He didn’t expect us to use it with abandon. Ephesians 2:10 says we were ‘created in Christ Jesus for good works.’ This does not mean to ignore your gifts, talents and innate creativity because you might be too afraid of what the world thinks of you. He has overcome the world. So don’t hold back – plunge into your creative existence and let your light shine on this world. 

Create in ME

Heaven and Earth He created one day
The trees, the plants, the birds with every word He’d say
Man was created to be just like Him
He loved to no end in spite of the sin

The heart to create comes from You
To imagine, to dream, to create something new
The God who created the wonders around
Placed in my heart the same sweet sound

The world is in need of my own voice
Not something borrowed, not someone’s choice
Can I create for the world to see?
God says I can – because He created me!

I need a vision, I need Your plan
Someday I might fail, cause I’m a fallen man
I will create new wonders for the world to see
And it will start by saying – “Lord, Create in ME”.
