You Are Gifted: Showing mercy
The great philosopher Frank Burns once said, “It’s nice to be nice to the nice.” Well! Anyone can treat people the way they deserve. You don’t need to be a Christian to pay people back in kind. What takes a gift of the Holy Spirit is to treat people better than they deserve. The word for that kind of treatment is "mercy."
The Bible says in Romans chapter 12, “We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If someone’s gift is . . . showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully” (verses 6,8).
Showing mercy means remembering that we ourselves are only starving beggars, made rich by God’s rich gifts to us. It means showing patience with others, as God has shown great patience with us. Be a living sacrifice today--show mercy to someone!
