How do I live out love when there's hate?
Desmond Thomas Doss was a United States Army corporal who served in World War II, serving as a combat medic. He went on to receive the medal of honour for his service beyond the call of his duty. But sticking on in the army wasn't easy for him. Constantly threatened, ridiculed, and mocked by his fellow inmates even to the extent of being beat up black and blue. After being given many opportunities to leave the army, he didn't. He stuck on, forgiving, and loving. During the War, when all his fellow soldiers were severely injured, he was the last one to leave, saving the lives of his colleagues, which involved risking his own life. Desmond Doss loved, in spite of the hateful response he had personally received.
It isn't easy to live out love in a world where there isn’t much love. In fact, it’s easier to be ignorant. But if anything can change hatred...it is love! God's Love! When you have the love of God in you, it becomes possible to live out love...in a love-starved and inconsistent world.
It was merely LOVE for us that drove Jesus to die on the cross. He reached out in love. Look to Jesus! He is love! Today, choose to display His love, especially to those who don’t love you back. If you don’t have enough of love in you, ask Jesus to fill you with His love, and He will. He will help you look past the offenses and genuinely love people.
Prayer:
Jesus! Thank you for your love! Your love is so pure and unconditional. Teach me to love like you do. Help me to be a carrier of your love in a love-starved world. Empower me, so I can experience You and act your love out! I can't do this on my own strength. I need Your help. In Jesus Name. Amen!
